Why is Mona Lisa 's portrait so famous?

Why is Mona Lisa's portrait world famous? I have pondered on this and here are the few answers ihave been able to get through reading Art books and some internet sources.

Mona Lisa was the wife of a rich Florentine silk merchant and the portrait was commissioned for their new home and to celebrate the birth of their second son. Leonardo da Vinci painted the portrait in techniques invented by him and used in this portrait for the first time.

Chiaroscuro:

The foremost is chiaroscuro portraiture.Using this method in painting the viewer cannot discern lines, just the values changing from dark to light due to light play and shadow forms. This method was invented by Leonardo da Vinci and this style is still most sought after in Arts today.Maughan has written a great deal on Chiarascuro technique and bit about Mona lisa's fame.

Atmospheric Perspective:

The murkiness of color values as it recedes in the background, the objects appearing blurry and small as they move away from the viewer's eyes was also invented by Leonardo Da Vinci and used with mastery in this portrait.

Sfumato:

No visible lines in painting! The painting has this soft smoky effect which is due to Sfumato technique of drawing and painting.

As an Artist in Pakistan, there is lack of guided resources for online and self study. My goal is to provide free resources to art students and community and help them excel in their desired area of interest from learning to marketing their art.
